Colorado Army National Guard Infantry hosts 10th Mountain Division Winter FTX at Camp Hale

Colorado Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry (Mountain) Regiment is one of three infantry mountain battalions in the U.S. Army. They regularly conduct Winter FTX’s at Camp Hale but this year, soldiers from 10th Mountain Division came to Colorado to train with 1-157.

Camp Hale is where the 10th Mountain Division was originally stood up in the 1942. The division was deactivated shortly after WWII and was later re-activated at their current location of Fort Drum, NY in the 1980’s.

10th Mountain Division Foundation board member and U.S. Army Maj. Richard Piltingsrud discusses the training event and had a discussion with local re-enactors of the 10th Mountain Division Living History Display Group on what Camp Hale was like back when it was an active installation (video by U.S. Army Capt. Remington Henderson).
