A Foundation grant helped support the 2026 Ninety-Pound Rucksack Challenge, an annual event that brings veterans, skiers, mountaineers, active-duty service members, and community members together to honor the legacy of the 10th Mountain Division. Held each year on February 18, the Challenge commemorates the Division’s historic ascent of Riva Ridge in 1945 while inspiring participants to embrace the same spirit of perseverance, teamwork, and service. Through events hosted at ski areas across the country, donor support helps foster camaraderie, strengthen community connections, and introduce new generations to the enduring legacy of the 10th Mountain Division.
Foundation support helped the 10th Mountain Alpine Club participate in and contribute to the 51st Annual 10th Mountain Division Ski-In in Colorado. By helping connect veterans, active-duty service members, descendants, and outdoor enthusiasts, the event fostered camaraderie, mentorship, and a shared appreciation for the Division’s mountain heritage. Through gatherings like the Ski-In, donor support helps strengthen the 10th Mountain community while preserving one of its most enduring traditions and inspiring the next generation of mountain leaders.
A Foundation grant helped support the inaugural 10th Mountain Division Memorial Day Weekend Climb-In at historic Camp Hale in 2026, bringing together veterans, active-duty service members, mountain guides, historians, and members of the broader 10th Mountain community. Led by 10th Mountain veteran and professional guide Mauri DiMeo, the event provided an opportunity to reconnect with the Division’s mountain heritage while fostering mentorship, outdoor education, camaraderie, and community. Through partnerships like this, donor support helps preserve the legacy of the 10th Mountain Division while creating meaningful opportunities for connection, shared experience, and the development of future mountain leaders.
